Confidential Arrangements:
The investigator must always be careful that any confidential arrangements he/she is requested to make fall within the realm of legality. With that point well made, it can be said that a person able to make arrangements, set up meetings between persons in business on a confidential basis, can be a valuable asset to some companies. A great deal of tact and creative ingenuity is generally needed to carry off a meeting in secret, and only a person trained in those abilities should even try it. Government intelligence agency training is valuable in this regard.
Courier Assignments:
Fed Ex, UPS, DHL and the USPS are in the business of transporting documents and items. However, there are sometimes legal items of such delicate nature that they must be transported in a secure and often undetectable manner. Trade secrets, gems, gold, and other valuable personal or business assets fall into this category. They are simply too valuable to be trusted to an unknown entity employee of such large companies. It is surprisingly easy to exchange a package under the control of the above agencies with another package of worthless value. Only trusted, bonded and insured individual courier can assure proper transport.
Contract Assignments:
There are other types of investigative work which involve various odd and sundry contract assignments. It is important to again emphasize this concerns only legally acceptable work.
A competent investigator can be a right hand person to an asset recovery agent. Assets which are missing or stolen can be airplanes (in which case the investigator might be better off with a pilot's license) boats (should know how to operate a power boat and a sailboat) trucks (semi rigs and heavy duty tractor/trailer rigs) and even cars. Unless the investigator also has a license to repossess, these cases must be contracted by a person with such a license.
International Specialties:
Some investigators have a special capability in foreign relations. That is, they have contacts in the major cities of other countries. Generally, these contacts are made and developed over the years by the investigator when working in those countries. It is best if a California licensed investigator knows how to get around in most Latin American countries, and has contacts in those countries.
